Past Simple Tense

Definition:

Past simple tense is used to talk about something that happened in the past.

What Past Simple Tense Tells us?

1. Past simple tense tells us that an action happened once in the past.
For example:

* The war ended in 1971.
* We constructed the building in 1880.
* He died last night.
* I met him last year.
2. Past simple tense tells us that an action happened again and again in the past.
For example:
* When I was in school, I got up early in the morning. (It means daily, again and again)
* I didn't like milk when I was a boy.
3. Past simple tense tells us that something was exist in the past or was true
For example:
* I had a car.
* I loved her a lot.
* I lived in Karachi, but in 1990, I moved to Lahore.

How Past Simple Tense Is Made:

1. In past simple tense second form of verb is used.
For example:
* I played cricket.
* I wrote a letter
* I watched a movie.
2. In negative and question sentences first form of verb is used.
* Did you eat an apple?
* No. I didn't eat an apple.
* Did you love her?
* Yes. I loved her.
