Past Perfect Tense

What is Past Perfect Tense?

The Past perfect tense tells us that an action was completed or finished at some point in the past before something else happened. In Past perfect tense, third form of verb (past participle) and "had" are always used. They indicate that we are talking about  Past perfect tense.

Structure of Past Perfect Tense:

Positive:
Subject + had + third form of the verb + ..........
I + had + finished my homework before mom came.
Negative:
Subject + had + not + third form of the verb + ........
I + had + not + completed + my study.
Interrogative:
Had + subject + third form of the verb + ........ ?
Had + he + gone + to school ?

Examples:

1. I had finished the work.
2. I had meet him before.
3. He had died when the doctor reached him.
4. He had gone to bed.
5. He had finished his school.
6. I had asked him to come to the party, that's why I did ask him again.
